ROAD TO KOREA

Route 1 · Southern arrival

Busan

A port metropolis where mountains, markets and beaches meet.

Busan should feel like an arrival, not an appendix to Seoul.

Quick planning brief

Recommended stay: 3 nights minimum for a first visit

Best base: Nampo for port history, Seomyeon for connections, Gwangalli or Haeundae for the coast

Why this stop earns its place

Its districts are far apart. Group the old port and markets together, then give the eastern beaches a separate day instead of crossing the city repeatedly.

Arrival and local rhythm

KTX arrives at Busan Station near the old port. The metro is dependable, but travel between western and eastern sights can take more than an hour.

Where to stay

Nampo suits markets and port history; Seomyeon is the transport compromise; Gwangalli and Haeundae suit sea-facing evenings. Choose one district based on the trip you actually want.

Food and practical notes

Jagalchi, 돼지국밥 and 밀면 are useful starting points, not obligations. Eat near where you are exploring and avoid building a day around viral queues.

When to move on

Allow at least three nights for a first visit. Fly or take KTX onward only after keeping one unstructured coastal evening.

Places that fit this route

  • Nampo, Jagalchi and Yeongdo as one port-side day
  • Gwangalli and Haeundae as a separate eastern day
  • One mountain or neighborhood viewpoint instead of collecting distant photo stops

A realistic sequence

  1. Choose accommodation by district before planning attractions.
  2. Keep the old port and markets together.
  3. Give the eastern beaches their own day and evening.
  4. Reserve the final half day for the neighborhood closest to your departure point.
